Audit trails

What is this?

Audit trails record who accessed which devices and what operational actions were taken. They provide accountability for remote access in production environments.

Why does it matter after devices ship?

Remote access to customer-deployed devices is sensitive. When a configuration changes, a service restarts, or data is accessed, you need a record of who did it and when - for security review, compliance, and incident investigation.

How does it work in Dataplicity?

Dataplicity records operational access events in the dashboard. Review access history per device or across your account to understand who connected, when, and through which access method.

When should I use it?

  • Customer contracts require access logging
  • Security review needs evidence of controlled remote access
  • An incident investigation needs to know who changed a device
  • You are preparing for SOC 2 or similar compliance frameworks

Example workflow

During an incident review, an administrator opens the organisation or device event history and correlates access events with the affected device and time window. Dataplicity shows the retention and export options available to your organisation.
