Video streaming

You can publish a device-hosted video service through Wormhole without opening an inbound port.

Choose a camera, drivers, and streaming software that support the Linux image on your device.

Before you start

  • Device connected to the internet with Dataplicity agent installed
  • USB webcam attached
  • Port 80 available
  • Privileged access - see Using sudo

Install a video service

Choose maintained streaming software for your Linux image and install it through your controlled provisioning process. Pin and review dependencies before granting elevated privileges.

Configure the service to listen only on the local interface and port you intend to publish through Wormhole.

Enable Wormhole and view the stream

  1. Enable Wormhole on the device in your dashboard
  2. Open the Wormhole URL in your browser
  3. Open the video application through the Wormhole URL

When to use this

  • Remote visual inspection of a field installation
  • Prototype camera monitoring before building a production pipeline
  • Quick proof-of-concept for edge video applications

Security note

A public video stream may expose sensitive locations. Authenticate access and disable Wormhole when not needed. See Securing Wormhole.
